This time around, the game takes place in a snowy Eastern European village in Romania, which is much larger and more immersive than its predecessor. The village structures can be climbed and used to fight enemies, making the gameplay more action-oriented.
Lycans are the game’s primary enemies and are more intelligent and agile than ever before. They can wield weapons and attack in packs, which forces you to rethink your strategy when dealing with them. You can use makeshift barricades to fend off enemies, similar to Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil Village Fitgirl Repack features an inventory management mechanic similar to Resident Evil 4, where you can move and rotate items for better storage space. Supplies, weapons, upgrades, and items can be bought from a merchant called the Duke. You can also hunt animals in the village and have them cooked into dishes by the Duke, which provides advantages such as decreasing damage taken while blocking.
The game progress can be saved manually by using typewriters, which replace the tape recorders seen in Resident Evil 7. A map of the village can be accessed from the pause menu, as well as a diary with sketches recapping your progress in the story so far. The game also features a photo mode and a button to skip cutscenes.
The Mercenaries Mode, an arcade-style game mode from past Resident Evil games, makes a return in Village. In this mode, you fight through timed stages and purchase items and upgrades from the Duke’s Emporium. If you purchased Village, you also received Resident Evil Re: Verse, a six-player online multiplayer third-person shooter when it was released in October 2022.
